A couple reasons I love being a wedding photographer:

I get to take one-of-a-kind images.  This wedding doesn’t happen again.  Larissa won’t put her gown on again before her ceremony.  She won’t see Nick for the first time on their wedding day again.  They have one first dance.  I am there, honored to catch these moments, allowing them to be remembered forever.  And I find great joy in doing so.

I get to draw with light.  Most of the time I use natural light, which can be a hide and seek game, but I love the challenge.  The perfect light is always able to be found, or made if need be (shout out to flashes).

Now, on to Nick and Larissa.  What a way to start out the 2012 wedding season.  Larissa is an artist, studying and working at the Savannah School of Art and Design.  Her wedding reflects her beauty and creativity to a tee.  Her wedding gown is a perfect example.  She entered a contest sponsored by Jasmine Bridal and won this dress.  It is stunning!  Be sure to keep scrolling for all of her amazing reception details, provided by her mom’s antique collection.

Enjoy this look back of Larissa and Nick’s big day!

The ring bearer is often a wedding element that many people overlook. With all the other details of a wedding to worry about, the ring bearer is simply just not the first item on the to-do list. However, new wedding trends are popping up everywhere, and the ring bearer is finally being noticed! A big thing now is to have a your ring bearer carry a creative alternative to the old-school ring pillow. There are SO many options out there! This is your opportunity to add a small touch of who you and your fiance are as a couple. Here are some ideas that I thought were unique and adorable!

If none of these fit your wedding style, look around! There are SO many options for ring bearer pillow alternatives. Although a small detail, I can guarantee it’s a detail your guests will love and remember forever. Be creative!

Jennifer & Ben: Lexington Engagement

Posted by: Honey Heart Photography

Could there be a more beautiful backdrop than blossoming flowers?  Thank you spring!  Also, how fabulous is Jennifer’s hair?  Love those curls!

Hope your Wednesday was wonderful.  Today I visited the Winchester Opera House.  We have a wedding there in a couple weeks and I went to scout locations.  It is gorgeous.  The owner has also purchased an old Victorian for you and your guests to stay in.  If you need a venue, brides, you must check it out!

What is better than the following photographic recipe:

- the 50s

- James Dean (Ali is such a big fan that her little dog is named after this Rebel actor)

- Parkette

- A red leather jacket

- Hair and Make Up by Fleet Street Hair Shoppe (way to go Candace)

- Clothes from Street Scene

I was skimming Ali and Chris’ pictures tonight and these two jumped out at me. Had to share.

Happy Monday to all and to all a good night!

Learn the Wedding Lingo!

Posted by: Always Planned

As those of you who are planning a wedding probably know, people in the wedding industry seem to have their own language. There are so many terms for chairs, linens, veils, and venues that it can get somewhat overwhelming if you don’t stay on top of the trends! Luckily, Huffington Post Weddings recently created a “Test Your Knowledge of Wedding World Terminology” quiz so you can determine just how much wedding lingo you know and learn new terms! Follow the link below to take the quiz!

Good luck!

"Can’t I do it myself?"

Posted by: Something Sweet

A question I hear from time to time....

and while it is certainly possible to do yourself there are a few things to think about before trying to tackle a candy buffet.  When I first started Something Sweet it became clear to me quickly that the saying, "what you don't know won't hurt us"...is very true in the retail industry and that does not exclude candy.  To say the least I was floored by the mark up even when I tried to purchase on a few of those bulk websites.  It became pretty clear pretty quickly that there would be no way that I could bring a quality table to my clients at $5.00 per guest and have a long term sucessful business.  I purchase candies according to colors or themes which means purchasing candy in colors and bulk.
Secondly, jars, jars, jars.  It is so important to have different sizes, shapes and styles in order to create a focal point and interesting table.  Apothecary jars start at $30.00 and can get fairly expensive depending on the size.  I like to showcase at least 7 different types of candies, depending on the size of the event, so you can see how expensive containers become.
The centerpiece really ties your candy buffet and event together.  We use all types of things to create the perfect centerpiece for your candy buffet.  Whether it is Christmas trees, candles, flowers, branches, candy towers, whimsical lollipops...you name it, we can create it.
And finally the peace of mind...priceless.  It is my goal to create the perfect centerpiece to your event, the "WOW" factor if you will.  I think part of the whole experience is enjoying your event which means not worrying the sett up and take down.  We take care of that too..we come and set up the candy buffet and come back to take everything down.  It is really that simple.
So, before you decide to tackle a project like this on...ask yourself, "what party favor can I give for $5.00 that is going to create a event centerpiece?"

I went to high school with Ashley and Kevin.  Ten years later, they found each other again.  Now they are getting married.  That is love a long time coming!

I had Gabe take my picture as we ended the shoot.  You gotta capture a good hair day when you can!

We are a little delayed in posting this wonderful engagement session with Michael and Marty. Unfortunately, their session fell right between our Maui and Vegas trips, so this post got a little behind. It was a two part session. On the first session, we shot a series of Audrey Hepburn images at the Kentucky Theatre, followed by a few Braveheart themed images over at McConnell Springs. Marty rocked the Audrey of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The following week, Michael had two large movie posters made up. I especially love the Breakfast at Tiffany’s poster. Classic! I’ve selected a few of my favorites to showcase here. Enjoy!
