This morning, I was watching E! Fascinating Celebrity Weddings and absolutely fell in love with the wedding of actress Amy Smart and HGTV carpenter hunk Carter Oosterhouse. Being eco-friendly is very important to the couple (they met at an environmental conference), and they wanted their wedding to be just that! The couple used all local vendors (to cut down on transportation waste) and all the ingredients for their food came from local farms. The most amazing part? With 220 guests, there was only ONE HALF of a bag of trash at the end of the day!!! How amazing is that? All the other waste was recyclable or compostable.
The beauty was definitely not sacrificed to make this wedding eco-friendly. The environment is typically not the first thing that is thought about when planning a wedding, but I love that Amy and Carter made it a huge priority. So gorgeous!

The last few weeks for us have been full of design concepts and color choices and the fun journey of choosing reception linens! As we look forward to the fabulous 2012 weddings of our even more amazing brides, one of my favorite parts of the design process has to be the linen choices! There are so many out there, from a beautiful single color poly to some of the most fabulous patterns we have ever seen! As you may have seen in our past posts, 2012 is shaping up to be quite the year of pops of color, and what better way to bring in that color and create instant atmosphere for your guests then a calculated linen choice!
The one downside to these fabulous linens can be the cost but I have put together a couple tips that we love to pass along to our amazing brides:
Hopefully this helped open your mind to so many different options but if you are still a bit confused and want to look at options, feel free to call us or email us and come into the studio! We have linen books from some of our favorite companies like La Tavola & BBJ Linens and would love to sit down and talk linens with you!!!
Happy Planning!

I stumbled across this video and could not stop crying! A couple’s wedding was canceled just hours before it started due to bad weather on the Jersey Shore. However, with the help of their family and friends, the entire wedding was moved to the bride’s parents’ home and it was absolutely beautiful. I encourage everyone to watch this video. Sometimes we all get caught up in the stress and excitement of the wedding that we forget what the special day is all about! We can all learn something from Jamie and Brian

Good Wednesday to you all! We have had quite the week. My sister had a baby last weekend, Gabe’s brother came home from the Air Force, and now my brother is in town. January might be cold and cloudy, but it has been good to us and is keeping us busy.
I have exciting news for today: we have been published in the Winter 2012 issue of Kentucky Bride Magazine. Check out the article with our picture (shout out to Heather and Jack) below and be sure to pick up your copy at Walmart, Walgreens, Target, Barnes & Noble, Joseph-Beth Booksellers or Meijer.

Thanks to the fabulous celebrity stylist Brad Goreski, the acronym POC, or “Pop of Color,” has become a rule that women everywhere live by. POC is when you add a brightly colored accessory or item of clothing to a mostly neutral colored outfit. And ladies, there is no reason you can’t have a little POC on your wedding day!
There are so many ways you can add a splash of color to your wedding ensemble. Try wearing bold pieces of jewelry or a festive hair piece. Or, if you want to be more subtle, try a bright shoe or a colorful garter. The POC possibilities are endless! Get creative and add a little POC to your life!

I don’t know about you all, but I have a HUGE sweet tooth and when it comes time to plan my own wedding, the cake will be a very important detail. The taste is obviously important, but I want it to look great, too! I’ve noticed a recurring theme in the wedding cakes I’ve seen lately: the abandonment of the cake topper. Sure, the classic bride and groom cake topper may be a little outdated, but there are SO many unique and creative options out there!
These are just a few of the adorable cake toppers I found on Etsy! Get creative! Let your cake topper be a representation of who you and your groom are as a couple. Find one that shows what your hobbies are or even personalize it to make the bride and groom look like you! A cake topper can be a great way to carry the theme of your wedding throughout.
Don’t give up on the cake topper!

The How Charming! Wedding Event was the fourth wedding show I have participated in since starting my business in the beginning of 2008. This year the show was held at the gorgeous Spindletop Hall. As always, we had a great time. I love the January show because it marks a goal for me to update our website and info for the year and we get to meet a lot of newly engaged ladies and their entourages (entouragi?). We also got to chat with some of our wedding biz friends and meet a couple new ones too.
You can check out our booth below. We revamped it a bit from last year with a few new details and A LOT of updated photos. The coat tree with hanging photos made a reappearance and I think it is still my favorite part of our setup. We were in a beautiful room upstairs that matched our booth and style perfectly. Thanks so much to Jacki and Jaime for hosting the show.
A special thanks to the new brides who stopped by our booth. We loved chatting with you and thanks to those of you who have already emailed for more info. We are offering a show discount for the next couple weeks so be sure to mention you are a How Charming! bride when you call or email us. Thanks!
Here’s to 2012!
This was the first time we got to use our new logo in a wedding show booth and we got so many compliments. Shout out to Hitch Design Studio for our logo design.

Here is my Gabe. We forgot to get a picture of the two of us. You just have to trust me when I say I looked super cute in my black dress, Anthro blazer, and suede booties.
I had a quick minute with my camera and snapped a few pictures before the show began. There were so many amazing vendors at the show (check the show website for a full list of vendors). Below we have Flour Girl Cakery.
Love this dress from Bridal and Formal.
Our roommates: Mint Julep Tours and West Baden.
Oh, how did this get in here? It’s Wally!
