Week three was a filling one, literally and figuratively. Our vendor lineup was filled with a caterer, 2 cake vendors and a florist. We started the evening off hearing from Sam Sears with South Van Catering. Sam is well known in the central Kentucky area for his 5 star food and service. He prepared two appetizers for the Brides to try, including his famous BBQ Wonton Tacos and Thyme Roasted Grapes – Ricotta Cheese Crostini. Sam shared a lot of very useful information with the Brides about what to look for in catering needs when it comes to venues, the difference in plated and buffet and broke down how a bar can work.
Rachel with She Bakes Cakes followed Sam Sears and shared her knowledge & wisdom about wedding cakes. Rachel talked about the difference in buttercream and fondant, importance of hiring a professional and sugar flowers. She was also so gracious to make 2 cakes for the Brides to try, they got to try her award winning lemon cake and her newest flavor almond. This also let the Brides see what wedding cake should look like when it is cut!
Cameron Tinker with Tinker’s Cake Shop closed out the cake discussion with groom’s cakes, what they are, who picks the design, how big they should be, all of that fun stuff. Cameron let the Brides try samples while he talked and then also had them a box to take home because that’s how awesome Cameron is. If you haven’t tried his strawberry cake, you must soon!
Doug Smith Designs ended the evening talking about design and flowers. They did a presentation that started with a white linen and votives, then added an overlay and then added a short centerpiece and chair covers, then changed it to a tall centerpiece so Brides could see the different options and then put some bling on the back of the chair covers and then, just joking, that’s it. 🙂 They did a black and red color scheme and it was beautiful. Doug & Glenn also had a traditional bouquet and a cascading bouquet for Brides to see.
Huge thanks to the vendors, I’m sure this was one of the Brides favorite night, especially since Doug Smith ended the evening with a sparkler send-off with everyone!
