This wedding was pretty dang sweet. Cannon-Marie and Jon are both super-cool to begin with, but pairing them with an outdoor wedding on the gorgeous grounds of the Cardome Center in Georgetown, KY was perfect. Weather cooperated and we had a bright (albeit hot) day, full of real, laid-back moments with their friends and family. Here are some of my faves:
How refreshing was it to hear the ukulele and vocals for the processional?
Also second shooting with me was Magnus Lindqvist. I love this candid moment he caught while the father of the bride was giving his speech.
I’m very impressed with Ben Evans and his company Onsite Photo Booth Rentals. The image quality is great. The prints are heavy stock. The bride and groom have an assembled album with the guests pics at the end of the night. Guests get a copy of their prints, but additional copies are available for download and purchase online, too. It’s a perfect setup.
Perfect ending to the day.
Thank you, Betsy and Magnus, for helping out! I’ll see you this Saturday!

Andrew and I (my darling husband) just celebrated our 5 year anniversary! Can you believe it has been five whole years!!! Ok, so maybe you can, but for me it feels like just yesterday that he got down on one knee and proposed to me in the bathroom… yes, I know – so romantic!! lol Honestly, it was incredibly romantic and even though he made a true effort two weeks later, with a fab diamond ring, I will always remember our bathroom moment.
That being said, we decided to plan a trip to New York City in honor of our anniversary. It just so happened that I also needed to go to NYC for a business meeting – Woman Entrepreneurs Rock the World conference!!! I had an amazing time; more on that later.
This post is all about NYC and how it can be utterly romantic, fun and exciting! This story will be told in pictures and will be a detailed account of our trip. Enjoy!!
The oh so cool Chelsea Market. We loved it there!! If you are in the Chelsea area you must stop by.
What is a trip to New York City without stopping at Kleinfeld?? Yes, indeed we did go in. We were promptly stopped at the door due to the filming of Say Yes To The Dress. ;(
We took the Staten Island Ferry and got to check out the most famous lady in NYC – the Statue of Liberty. She looked smaller than I expected.
We met a group of very nice ladies and one of them offered to take our picture. We rarely miss a photo opportunity.
Last week, I gave a short talk to a room full of brides at Simply Love Studio. I was there to give them advice for how to make the most of their wedding photography. The biggest component of having amazing wedding photography is to make sure that you, the bride and groom, are perfectly matched to your wedding photographer. Before you pick a photographer, look at their blog. Your attitudes toward people, life—the way you see the world should coincide. You’ll want your photographer to see the best in you. The way you, in your mind’s eye, see yourself.
We as photographers all have a choice as to when we press the shutter release button, you know? I believe that we press it subconsciously when we see that glimpse of what we believe to already be true. I love people.
Amanda and Brian are awesome people, and I hope that my affection for them comes across in the images. They’re just cool, laid back folks. And they picked one of my favorite venues in Lexington for both the ceremony and reception—The Carrick House. Kara Heissenbuttel—-you always do an amazing job running the events there. Good seeing you!
And the slideshow! Please stay in touch with me afterward through Facebook and Twitter. I’d love it if you’d leave a comment below, too. Thanks for stopping by. Come back! -shaun
This weekend was a busy one here at Lauren Chitwood Events. All hands were on deck for these two big weddings. I like to think of it like the movie, “The Wedding Weekend.” The days were long and exhausting, but the excitement on the Brides’faces makes it so worth it. As an intern for Lauren, as time goes on, I am constantly more and more surprised by what goes into the wedding planning process. It never ceases to amaze me how much Lauren Chitwood Events offers to its’ clients.
Saturday’s wedding began with an early 6:00 a.m. All eight of us were ready to go and began with transporting all the beautiful florals to the reception site. With air conditioning blowing strong in a caravan of vans, we make our way (well below the speed limit) to Mellwood Arts Center. All linens and were set up and bows were tied. Lighting and centerpieces were placed and looked beautiful. The big test for the day was the creation of “trees” around four large columns in the middle of the room. With bunches and bunches of curly willow, multiple trips to the supply store (these things were amazing but tough!), and sweet little tea lights, we created a masterpiece. The industrial feel of Mellwood was now transformed into a romantic and woodsy scene.
Sunday’s wedding was a little less labor intensive, but just as wonderful. The Gillespie was a lovely setting for the cocktail hour and reception after a Greek Orthodox wedding. One of the best things about working with Lauren Chitwood Events is that the personalities of the Bride and Groom always shine through. Sunday’s bride was so fun and bubbly and really wanted her florals to reflect that. She loves feathers and the color pink, so her centerpieces and bouquets were made up of fun flowers and crazy white feathers.
In addition to the set up and coordination, Lauren takes care of her brides in every other way on their special wedding day. She makes sure that her bride has nothing to worry about and can only enjoy herself. The team takes care of everything from decorating the hotel room to guarding and delivering the gifts, even picking up the couple’s dry cleaning the next day. We are there to run errands, hold bouquets and shoes, and give encouragement whenever needed. I can’t imagine how a couple would manage how much goes into the wedding day without Lauren. From early morning set up to late night tear down, the bride and groom are off the hook and can only relax. It never ceases to amaze me how much Lauren Chitwood Events offers to its’ clients when compared to other event planning companies. Lauren really goes above and beyond when it comes to taking care of her clients.
