Real Wedding: Melissa & Abe

Posted by: Lauren Chitwood Events

Melissa and Abe are probably one of the most fun and unique couples we have had yet. With a beautiful ceremony at the ornate St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, and a reception at the Gillespie, they were able to tie aspects of his Arabic culture and her chic style to make an unforgettably beautiful wedding.

As you can see, the main inspiration for this wedding was FEATHERS!!! Melissa wanted the classic pink and gold look to be accented with feathers, to give the room the glam look she truly desired. Check out the slideshow from their wonderful photographer, Amy Campbell, one of Angela Anderson‘s INCREDIBLY talented photographers. We really love her around here, and were so excited to get to work with her on this wedding!!!

To Feathers and Fun,

The LCE Team

Grace is an artist.  A very talented one.  Her reception centerpieces?  She made them.  Her bouquet?  Yep.  She did that, too.  I wish you all could see the questionnaire she filled out when we were putting together her wedding photography arrangements.  When asked about the colors in her wedding, she answered “all the colors.”  Awesome, right?

We started off the day with hair and makeup in one of the suites at Castle Post.  This was my first time inside the castle that sits off Versailles Road.  Pretty dang cool to finally be in there after being curious about it for so many years.  From there, we left for Keeneland where the rest of the day would be spent.  Grace and Jonathan did a First Look down at the paddock, then we went back up to Keene Barn for the ceremony and reception.  It was hot as blazes outside, but I’ll take heat over rain anyday, right?

To Grace and Jonathan—Thank you for being so laid back and awesome.  It’s obvious that you’re well-loved by your friends and family.  That says alot.

And a shout-out to the vendors that make the day great…

Eric Henninger – videographer

Soul Explosion – live band

Elaine Cook – harpist

Dr. Dwight Moody – minister

Resa Browning – wedding planner

Trudy Thornton – flowers

Here are some of my favorite images from the day:

Best belt buckle ever.

Grace’s 68 Chevy is named Bob.  Love this shot?  HERE is some footage of how we did it.

And the slideshow….

Do me a favor?  Don’t let our time together end here.  Stay in touch!  All y’all!  You can connect with me through Facebook and Twitter.  Feel free to leave a comment below, too, if you feel so inspired. Oh, and please click HERE to see all of the images from this wedding.

Final thanks to Betsy Whiteman and Magnus Lindqvist for shooting with me.  Great images!  I’m very proud to shoot with you.

If your not already familiar with it, 21C is a museum and hotel in Downtown Louisville dedicated soley to 21st century art.

Talk about a modern place to have an event!  It is one of the most unique and probably the most art-filled locations for a wedding in Louisville–even their restrooms are a work of art! {seriously, check it out}

The Penthouse with rooftop garden is a super swank ceremony location that overlooks the Ohio River and Downtown Louisville.  They have all kinds of luxury amenities, and were voted #1 Hotel in the USA last year.  My favorite perk of having an event at 21C is the fact that they offer their atrium projector {usually reserved for world famous works of art} for all weddings and rehearsal dinners.  Meaning you could have a personalized slide show among several works of 21st century art!

And lets not forget about Proof on Main, 21C’s in-house restaurant that boasts amazing local cuisine with a Tuscan Spirit.  Quite possibly my favorite part of 21C is the adorable 4ft tall red penguins that are strategically placed all over the museum and act as its mascot.  For more information about 21C weddings visit their website or click here.

Check out these photos from our friend Josh at Bellagrace Studios of Louisville. See even more amazing photos of this wedding at Bellagrace Studios’ Blog by clicking here.

I heart the chandeleir light post!

There are loads of details when planning a party, in this blog we will give tips on the catering side of the party. If you know these details before the event you can stay one step ahead and avoid lots of headaches and heartaches!

TIPS:

1) Know your budget: this includes food, service, and beverages. Knowing your entire party budget doesn’t really help us, you need to break down your overall budget and present the caterer with the “food” budget.

2) Consider what type of food service you would like at your party, some different options that Dupree offers are:

  • Buffet Dinner

  • Seated Dinner

  • Stations

At this party Dupree served stations and each station was in a barn stall, this one happened to be in Man O’War’s stall.

  • Passed Appetizers

2) Consider a “Theme” - A good theme can give you idea’s for food, dress, music, decorations, and set a special mood. Below is a picture of one of our favorite themed parties:

This party was a 21st birthday party and was a "Beatles" (the music group) theme. Each bar and food station was set-up as a different beatle song, this one was Yellow Sub-Marine.

There are endless amounts of themes, be creative and make yours personal. Below are just a few ideas:

  • Seasonal, summer or cookout theme, fall, winter, spring
  • Green theme, you could use everything that’s “Green” recycled glass/aluminum products, composting, donating leftovers etc.
  • Grow your own food or use everything local

3) Consider doing popular appetizers or something special and unique. Having an appetizer ready for your guests shows them you care. You could incorporate the apps into your theme or if the rest of your food is slightly traditional consider going with an app that’s a little more fun and interesting.
